3 Top Tips for Freelancers Looking to Conquer Social Media

You know that you should be active on social media to grow your small business quicker. But you have more urgent things to do on a daily basis than checking Facebook and responding to Twitter messages.

Don’t worry, I’m here to help you to do social media efficiently!

It’s easy to spend hours each day online without getting anything done. Unfortunately, each day our attention spans are getting shorter and the number of potential distractions getting greater. To achieve what you set out to do in your business strategy, you, of course, need to focus on the most important things first, but you also need to have simple processes in place that will allow you to do more!

How can you conquer social media?

Start by putting a clear plan in place and commit to X hours per week to plan, create and schedule your content. The number of hours will be different for everyone, depending on your skills and experience, the size of your goals, the complexity of your digital marketing and level of automation in place.

If you’re literally just starting out (or reconsidering if social media is right for your business), maybe the following will help you decide and find the right direction.

Here are my top 3 tips for everyone starting out with social media for their small business:

Be consistent!

No matter how much or how little time (be realistic) you can invest into social media, commit to it and always deliver! Planning to blog weekly? Put into your calendar enough time to do so. Do you want to post daily on your social platforms? Make sure to post every single day. Do you think that twice a week is frequently enough? Make sure you don’t skip any ‘posting’ day.

Be authentic!

People don’t buy from logos or mission statements, they buy from real people. Don’t hide behind your brand, be the face of your brand. This will make it easier for you to connect with your clients, build strong relationships and gain trust. Simply be your unique self and people will appreciate it.

Be social!

Listen more than you talk, ask questions and respond to all requests. It’s easy to be the loudest person in the room, shouting out loud how amazing you/your products or services are, but it won’t connect with people and build trust & relationships this way. Be the charismatic person that everyone wants to hang out with because you make THEM feel special.
